About The Candidate
Elect Dan Spheekas
Hello, I’m Dan Spheekas, and I’m running for a position on the Haverhill School Committee. As a dedicated member of our community, I am passionate about ensuring our schools provide the highest quality education for every student.
My Background
I was raised in Haverhill and attended Haverhill Public Schools from Kindergarten until I graduated from Haverhill High School in 2002. Professionally, I have been teaching since 2011 and I currently work as a Middle School Science Teacher in Lynn, MA where I have been since 2012 and I am a Cluster Leader. I live in Haverhill with my wife and our two sons who attend Haverhill Public Schools.
Commitment to Education
Education has always been a cornerstone of my values. I strive to be a lifetime learner, and believe it is important that students in Haverhill are given the opportunity to do the same. My experiences have given me insight into the challenges and opportunities within our school system. I intend on using feedback from teachers, parents, and students to develop strategies and policies to better our city’s schools.
Why I’m Running
I am running for the school committee because I believe in our children and I know that if they are properly prepared for the future, it will make life better for all of us. Transparency and efficiency are a huge focus of mine. I have seen far too many situations where resources are wasted, students, teachers, and parents are not supported, and classroom behaviors have become detrimental to student learning and growth. My goal is to collaborate with the community and fellow committee members to create policies that plan for progress. My overall goal is to enhance student learning and well-being, ensure a safe learning environment, and strengthen labor relations with HPS staff.
Looking Ahead
If elected, I am committed to the Haverhill School Committee and plan on bringing passion and common sense ideas to the following areas:
- Planning for progress
- Ensuring safety for all students and staff
- Advocating for equitable resources across all schools
- Improve student attendance
- Promoting programs that support both academic and emotional development
- Strengthen labor relations between the city and the HPS unions
- Retain high qualified
- Ensuring transparent communication between the school committee and the community
I am excited to bring my experience, dedication, and collaborative spirit to the school committee. Together, we can work towards a brighter future for our students.
Thank you for your support.
